Here's What You Should Do This Quarantine Instead

Week 6 into quarantine and I am sure you have done a lot to ensure your sanity, being stuck at home (or rather safe  at home). From dalgona coffee to impulsive haircuts, you have done it all to distract yourself from this situation. But if you still do not know what to do during this quarantine, if the distractions did not work, why not try yoga? Instead of constantly overthinking about life after quarantine or making dalgona coffee for the umpteenth time, try taking a step back and calm down.

Yoga is an amazing way to destress. It promotes relaxation and allows you to get rid of the negative energy that you are harbouring. You can also include essential oils in your yoga routine to alleviate stress and reduce anxiety!

There are various essential oils you can use but if you are new to yoga or essential oils, I would recommend using Bergamot oil!

Bergamot oil is underrated but it has a lot of benefits that we all need during this tough time. One of its amazing benefits is that it helps to elevate your mood and instantly provide you with positive energy. It will make your yoga experience that much more relaxing and fulfilling (which is exactly what we need right now).

BERGAMOT BENEFITS

  • Elevate mood
  • Alleviate stress
  • Antiseptic
  • Antispasmodic
  • Analgesic
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Increase serotonin
  • Antibacterial
  • Antidepressant
  • Aid with sleep disorders
  • Anti-congestive
  • Support central nervous system
  • Eases anxiety
  • Reduce overthinking

Bergamot essential oil is dubbed the ‘feel good’ oil and the ‘self-acceptance’ oil as its sweet citrusy scent is able to uplift your mood and relieve feelings of self-judgement and low self-esteem.

You will be sure to feel light and refreshed after your yoga session with bergamot essential oil as it increases serotonin, elevate mood, and alleviate stress! It is also an analgesic which means that you will not only feel mentally lighter but also physically lighter as the muscle aches and tension in your body will be eased.

Since it is an antispasmodic, it means that your respiratory and nasal passages will be cleared, and you will feel relief from any coughing fit or congestion. This makes breathing a lot easier as well, which also plays a part in relaxing your body during yoga.

HOW TO USE

If you plan on using it while doing yoga, you can add a few drops into your diffuser and bask in its scent and amazing benefits. But if you prefer to have additional benefits or if you want to specifically get rid of any stress or to have better sleep, you can also create your own blend to get the benefits that you want and to help your body with its needs.

For example, you can add 5 drops of Bergamot, Lemon, Sandalwood, and Neroli oil with water in order to enhance your yoga practice!

If you wish to calm down and get rid of any negative feelings and energy, you can breathe it via an ultrasonic diffuser or by adding a few drops onto a tissue and inhaling it.

However, if you prefer to use essential oils topically, you can dilute Bergamot oil with any carrier oil like Jojoba and apply it to your wrists, back of the neck, or any desired area. This will soothe your anxiety and elevate your mood instantly!

CAUTION

With Bergamot oil, it is important to be careful as it is photosensitive and should not be used topically as is. You will get a sunburn if it is applied to exposed skin. You should always dilute it with a carrier oil in order to use it topically to avoid any skin sensitivities. In addition to that, you should always be mindful of how much and how often you use this oil as there will be side effects for heavy usage.

As always, be sure to conduct a patch test to see if any allergic reaction occurs. Keep away from children and pregnant women. Consult your doctor if there are any doubts.
