What does Clean Beauty Means?

As a conscious consumer, you may have heard of the term “clean beauty” as you navigate in this beauty care journey, so how much exactly do you know about it? Don’t worry if you don’t already know, let us get the lowdown for you!

What is “Clean Beauty”?

The term “clean beauty” was born in 2015 in the United States as demands for non-toxic products are in the rise. Clean beauty refers to products free of any toxic or harmful chemicals that would imperil your own health. We’ll get more into it later. As of today, there is no official definition of the term nevertheless, do allow us to share some pro-tips that would aid you in your clean beauty pursuit.

Defining Clean Beauty Products

Since there isn’t a clear indicator of the term, we would suggest the following when selecting clean beauty products:

  1. Clean Ingredients

Clean ingredients are those that do not contain hormone disruptors and carcinogens, they are safe for usage.

  1. Pay Less Attention to Buzz Words

Buzzwords such as All-Natural, Organic, Vegan, Plant-derived, sustainably-sourced or Eco-friendly do not necessarily identify the product as clean beauty. As science and technology of beauty care are ever-evolving, it is possible to include safe synthetics, safe man-made ingredients and safe preservatives into the products.

  1. Focus on the Labels

Beauty brands that provide transparent labels are on the right path to clean beauty. Listing all the ingredients used in a product allow consumers a clear understanding of the content and in turn boost their confidence. At HYSSES, we’ve always made it a point to list down the plethora of ingredients contained in all our products. Being transparent is of paramount importance to us and to our consumers.

Nasties that Should be Avoided

If you are new to clean beauty, here is a quick glance at all the nasties that would cause harm to your health:

  • Parabens
  • Synthetic Fragrances
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
  • Phthalates
  • Artificial Colours
  • Formaldehyde
  • Aluminium Compounds
  • Hydroquinone
  • Oxybenzone
  • Triclosan
  • Refined Petroleum
  • Talc
  • Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
